see if I can do better this week

233 lbs.

Last week I only made it to day 2 in ETK and push-ups. I'm just finding it hard to get back in to the grove of working out. Also had some other things that interfered with working out, like spending all night in the ER with a friend.

Going to set up the July calendar tonight after work. and start crossing it off again. That should help some.

Saturday I did Grease the Grove style workouts with band assisted pull ups and dips. Although the last set, I did with no bands. But could only do 2 each, and even those were struggles.

Yesterday, I showed off a 16 kg kettlebell to a friend from high school haven't seen him in a few years. We went to fireworks with another of our friends. Did a couple of snatches, and a couple of windmills. 1 1-arm push up on each side.

Today's push-ups, 100 push up challenge, week 2, day 1 (again):
14
14
10
10
35.

Oh and today starts the first week of 3 a days 3 to 4 days a week. :(

Oh what a week

Wednesday was self defense class. Thursday I did ETK Day 3. Rocked it good enough.

Friday was the awesome. I took someone up on an offer to check out Joust Gym for a kettlebelll class. I couldn't keep up, but it didn't keep me from stopping. Only think I really didn't care for was the American Swing. I'm told it's a Cross Fit thing.

Not sure if it's truly a Cross Fit only thing, but I don't think it's a all that great. But you don't argue with the instructor(s).

Warm up, run around the building, forgot the distance they said it was, "american" swings, 15 situps, 5 burpees. Repeat for 3 sets. Workout was 10,9,8,7...1 double swings (normal real swings) and clean and jerks, followed by a 100 yard dash. I've Hate running by the way. I also never did a clean and jerk before. Only used 30lbs (bodyfit I think) bells, swings were easy, the clean and jerks were easy to get down and do, but hard for me to complete. Then the run. Oy. But I feel better for learning the jerk.

Today my right shoulder hurts to move. More pain I'll deal with it. It wasn't too bad during Martial Arts after warming up. At least not enough to notice it. however after cooling down, I've known it all day.

Today was Street Clothes day at class. Because we were training in a hallway. Community Center was doing a city soccer thing, and used our normal room for that. Hallway wasn't the greatest, but meh.

Wore my five fingers, 3 people in class are going to look into getting a pair now. I liked.

Downside. I took a forearm to the side of the head in sparing. It was a blind shot. The guy's good at the strange angle / off ballance / blind shots. this is the second time he's caught me in the head. Problem was today we had no gear. wasn't super hard, but caught the bottom of the jaw on the spin, and pushed the head back and to the right. still jarring.

The bigger problem, right before that, he went to sweep my leg, and kicked me in my ankle instead. the bad ankle, that was finally healed. This time the front of the thing. hurts to even stand. hurts to lay in bed. Doesn't look bruised but DAMN! Couldn't even walk up the stairs to the door to let my friends in today. Had to hop up, using the rail.

Also got my motorcycle out of storage. It's sitting under my car port now. Battery was dead, had to go buy a new one and replace it. Next winter, I'm putting it in proper storage at a shop, or I'm getting a trickle charger. Probably a shop though. Did 20+ miles on the surface streets, only about a 3 mile stretch on the the freeway. Loved every minute of it.

Oh, and because of the class Friday Night, I was going to do ETK day 4 on Saturday... But Martial Arts came first and injured now. So missed it completely.

One last trip to the park

So because of financial reasons (one of the co-workers got a part time job on Saturdays)... Tonight was our last Saturday at the park. We're going to do the workouts at work on Monday nights.

Tonight was light, but out side of the comfort zone.

I had everyone move up in weight tonight.
20 swings @ 32kg (me)
20 swings @ 24kg (nick)
10 swings @ 16kg (deb)

Then we moved down to our normal weight, and did 20 swings
me at 24kg
nick at 16kg
deb at 12kg

Then Double swings.... we only went to 10

Then 5 per side clean and press at our normal weights.

Then we were done, and had the joy of pushing 320 lbs up the hill to my car. Nick grabbled the handle, I pushed. We actually ran most of the way up. We got the tennis courts, and had to stop. Then I pulled the last 50 feet up the hill solo.

Working out

I have been working out, just not talking about it.

I've been doing groups of swings, presses, and putzing around on the pull up bar.

Last night, before martial arts, I did:
20 2 hand swings
20 right hand swings
20 left hand swings
20 hand 2 hand swings
6 pull-ups with the band.

Then I went and did 2 hours of martial arts.

My legs hurt, my ribs hurt (where I got punched) and my back hurts. Feels kind off good, except for the stiffness with the pain.

Tomorrow in the Park, our first time in 3 weeks, we're going Tabata. Swings, Kettlebell Squats, Burpees, and sprints. Not in that order. 6pm Sat night can not get here soon enough.

tonight's group workout

I've got a little red wagon to take the kettlebells up and down the hill with. I have to tighten some of the bolts. Still no Samantha. I'm being told in 2 weeks, since her mom and her can't make it next week. They have family coming in from out of town.

It really is fun to have people to work out with. They're catching on pretty quick. One has even went out and bought his own kettlebell. He got a 16kg. I talked him out of the 24kg. Some things he'd like to be heavier on, but other things the 16kg is harder than he can do. One of the Maintenance guys saw my KB while I was out to dinner last night (I worked 15 hours), he thought it was a 16lbs ball, meant to train bowlers. He said he was surprised at the weight when he picked it up yesterday. He asked what you do with it, and Nick (the guy that bought his own) said lots of things. He's hooked and infected.... He's going to try and drag one of his roomies out next week.

Tonight's Workout:
10 sumo deadlifts
10 dead swings
20 swings
10 release swings
10 r/l cheat curls
1 r/l windmills
Outlaw rope pullups (Mine were more like leg lifts, nick started it)
3 r/l turkish getups
10 wave squats
5 hill sprints

Group workout

So it appears that I was too hard on the group last week. I didn't think we worked out all that hard, except for the hill sprints. However, yesterday Nick was saying he was still sore. He didn't show up today because he was going to visit his dad a little way up state.

Deb didn't bring Sam, because Sam had to work. We're changing the workout time to Saturday Evenings about 7pm (although I'm half tempted to say 5pm even though it'll be warmer), to accommodate Sammy.

So it was just Deb and myself. I figured that was ok, I can work her swings and other things, and focus in on problem areas. She had trouble last week with the swings.

I was starting with dead lifts. I told her to push her butt back further, she did... But couldn't get more than a 1/4 of the way down, because her Hamstrings were too tight.

So we stretched out and did some body weight stuff too. She said she was going to work her stretches this week because she really really wants to get in shape and likes the way that she felt. I can't wait to see how Nick is doing Monday. And by moving to later in the day, I might be able to get 1 to 2 more people to come join us (because while they said they wanted to work out, the morning was too early).

Today's "Group" workout:
Carry 24kg in one hand, 16kg and 12kg in the other hand, down the hill to the work out area.
5 Toe Touches, widening the feet each stretch holding for 10 seconds.
2 wide stretch lunges
10 Rock bottom squats with wiggles. (Deb was having problems with these, pushing her knees towards her toes but we cleaned it up).
5r / 5l side lunges (step sideways out into a side lunge).
3 - 3/4 unassisted pull-ups (only 2 were from dead hangs, the first one was from a standing start).
5 - Heavy band assisted pull-ups (perform better 2 1/2 inch superbands).
4 - Heavy band assisted pull-ups

Deb did 4 and 3.

Then it was time to carry the heavy weights back up the hill. 24kg in one hand, 16 and 12 kg in the other hand.
It's a lot harder going up the hill than it is going down the hill... I'm going to buy a wagon for next week.
